Biography


In her current position as Sr. Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, Louise Yates has responsibility for student admissions. In addition, she is in charge of undergraduate student affairs, including recruitment and retention, pre-college programs, the Center for Engineering Diversity, Engineering Career Services, study abroad programs, and other special programs related to undergraduate student life in the Viterbi School of Engineering.

Yates has been involved in engineering and student affairs for more than 20 years. Prior to her promotion to Associate Dean, she, was Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Student Affairs. She served as Director of Undergraduate Programs, successfully competed for and secured a half million dollar grant from the federal government to fund the implementation of the School’s Cooperative Education Program, which has since grown into a full Career Services Program. Yates also continues to serve as the Principal Investigator for the School’s MESA/MEP state-funded grant and co-authored the proposal that secured funding for the School’s Mentoring Program.

She represents the School on numerous university committees including the Provost Academic Council, Committee on Academic Policies and Procedures, the Student Affairs Council, the Executive Board of USC’s Academic Cultural Initiative, and many others. Yates has also served as Team Leader for the Advisement Redesign Team for the Cost & Service Task Force, and currently serves as one of the co-chairs for the Campus Center Project.

Due to a move to California from her native Ohio, Ms. Yates transferred from the University of Cincinnati to Cal State Long Beach for the completion of her undergraduate work in Social Welfare, followed by the completion of her graduate work in Higher Education at USC.
