Emilio Ferrara Joins ISI

Ferrara’s diverse research interests are at the nexus of network science, machine learning, and computational social science

Emilio Ferrara has joined ISI from Indiana University, where he was a research scientist in the Network Science Institute. He also has been a visiting researcher at the Royal Holloway University of London and at Vienna Polytechnique, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Network Sciences Institute.

Ferrara’s diverse research interests are at the nexus of network science, machine learning, and computational social science, with a focus on social network analysis, social media mining, criminal networks, and knowledge engineering. In October, he was named as a VIP Influencer by IBM Watson Analytics, a cloud-based smart data discover service. At IBM’s invitation, he will be a guest at IBM Insight 2015, the world’s largest annual big data conference, later this month. Ferrara’s research has appeared in PNAS, Communications of the ACM, Physical Review Letters and other journals, and presented in several ACM & IEEE Conferences. He received PhD in mathematics (computer science track) from the University of Messina in Italy.
