The USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) would like to welcome all the new students and and returning students.
As you know, campus is different this fall. You have probably already noticed a heightened sense of safety at USC with signs reminding each of us to keep a safe distance from each other and Trojan Check stations set up all across campus.
Here on the third floor of Biegler Hall of Engineering (BHE), we have met the challenge of creating a safe environment for our students while simultaneously working to ensure they still have interactive lab experiences. With the leadership of Senior Lab Technician at AME Rod Yates, we put together a virtual tour of how we’ve modified the space. (Please see the video above.)
First and foremost, this means we follow Los Angeles County CDC guidelines. Before students arrive every day, we will sanitize the entire third floor lab space with an electrostatic sanitizing sprayer; this sanitizing process will be repeated before every lab session. Every individual entering the lab space will have his or her temperature checked, as well.
Inside, our work benches have been fitted with acrylic dividers to provide a safe space for students to work. This also helps to secure staff and faculty, while providing valuable feedback to students on their projects. Using a medical grade ultraviolet sterilizing cabinet, our staff will sanitize all tools used during each lab session before returning them to the toolbox at the end of the day.
