In this episode, Brandi Jones, vice dean for diversity and strategic initiatives at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, speaks about her work, the people who have shaped her and those whose lives she has shaped — as well as her experiences leading equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives at some of the nation’s top engineering schools.

Jones also discusses USC Viterbi’s new Racial Equity-Minded Action Plan, which reaffirms the school’s commitment to advance racial equity and inclusion and to help dismantle the structural and systematic factors that contribute to such inequities, both at the school and beyond.

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering’s podcast series “Escape Velocity” originally launched in 2016 as an audio drama series capturing the intersection of engineering and everyday life — stories of love in a time of algorithms, unlocking the human body and even an old school radio drama about AI buildings as friends.

Now, it has been reimagined in partnership with Dr. Jones to capture the intersection of race, academia and STEM.
