Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. After launching AI/nsiders in 2023 where he interviewed the ISI humans behind our AI research, he expands his quest to the other disciplines researched at ISI. Networking, cybersecurity, computing, microelectronics, quantum, space, ISI scientists have a lot to say about the state of their fields, their research topics, and how AI fits into them.
David Barnhart, Director of the Space Engineering Research Center at ISI, discusses how AI could be used to support humans in space. He describes one of the key events that inspired him to pursue work in the field he’s in today. He explores what could become possible with more modular, sustainable engineering in space and how it solves a problem that’s existed since the journeys to the stars began. He explains why being able to learn from failures and communicate the importance of your work are such critical parts of working in science. Listen to his episode of ISI/nsiders below.
