ISI/nsiders – ISI

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. After launching AI/nsiders in 2023 where he interviewed the ISI humans behind our AI research, he expands his quest to the other disciplines researched at ISI. Networking, cybersecurity, computing, microelectronics, quantum, space, ISI scientists have a lot to say about the state of their fields, their research topics, and how AI fits into them.

Jonathan Habif, a Principal Scientist at ISI, explains why he’d like to consider himself an inventor. He explores why it’s important to develop the skill of observation, whether it’s simply to tell the weather or to solve a problem in the lab, and how fishing helps him practice it. He shares how the problems he solves in quantum relate to the search for extraterrestrial life. He discusses why he enjoys being able to work with theoretical physicists and what he does to help encourage excitement in his teams. Listen to his episode of ISI/nsiders below.
