About AIER

An indoor view of an aircraft maintenance facility with a large airplane bearing the Korean Air logo. The facility has high ceilings with overhead cranes and a 'Safety First' sign on the wall.

The Airbus Institute for Engineering Research (AIER) was originally envisioned by USC Trustee and Korean Air Chairman Dr. Y. H. Cho, and was established in 2004 with Airbus' initial contribution of $6 million to the USC endowment. AIER is managed by the USC Viterbi School of Engineering’s Office of Research. The program enables collaborative research among faculty and students in the engineering schools at Inha University, Korea Aerospace University (KAU), and the University of Southern California. The program has supported several innovative and highly impactful research projects over the past two decades, many of which are highlighted on the AIER Research page.
