The object of Academia Europaea is the advancement and propagation of excellence in scholarship in the humanities, law, the economic, social, and political sciences, mathematics, medicine, and all branches of natural and technological sciences anywhere in the world for the public benefit and for the advancement of the education of the public of all ages. The aim of the Academy is to promote European research, advise governments and international organisations in scientific matters, and further interdisciplinary and international research.

Academia Sinica, the most preeminent academic institution of the Republic of China (Taiwan), was founded in China in 1928 to promote and undertake scholarly research in the sciences and humanities. In 1949, Academia Sinica was re-established in Taipei.

Several faculty are elected members or foreign members of The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, one of academia's largest and most authoritative organizations. They are part of a five-thousand person membership that supports education and applied scientific research.

Headquartered in Moscow, the Academy (RAS) is considered a civil, self-governed, non-commercial organization chartered by the Government of Russia. Members of RAS are elected based on their scientific contributions – election to membership is considered very prestigious. At the beginning of April 2020, the Academy had 2021 living Russian members and 486 foreign members.

Since the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts was founded by law (as the Serbian Royal Academy) in 1886, it has been the highest academic institution in Serbia. Members of the prominent Serbian Academy contribute to the international exchange of research and joint research projects.
