Four USC Viterbi Faculty Members Selected As IEEE Fellows

IEEE, the world’s leading professional association for advancing technology for humanity, has announced its 2019 class of Fellows. The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one-percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career milestone.

This year, four USC Viterbi Faculty members join the prestigious ranks, comprising two faculty members from Electrical Engineering (EE), one from Computer Science (CS) and one from Biomedical Engineering (BME).

Hossein Hashemi, professor of Electrical Engineering (Electrophysics) was honored for his development of radio-frequency and optical phased-array integrated circuits. Mihailo Jovanovic, professor of Electrical Engineering (Systems) was recognized for his contributions to modeling, optimization, and control of large-scale distributed systems. The two EE professors were joined by their USC Viterbi colleague Michael Zyda, professor of Computer Science, for his contributions to game design and networking.

Also honored as a 2019 IEEE Fellow was Qifa Zhou, Professor in Biomedical Engineering and Ophthalmology. Zhou was recognized for his contributions to medical ultrasound transducers and multimodal imaging.
