Chair of the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Maged Dessouky has been honored with an appointment as Dean’s Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
In a memo to the University, USC Viterbi Dean Yannis C. Yortsos congratulated Professor Dessouky on the latest appointment.
“This appointment recognizes Maged’s exceptional distinction as a Professor in the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering,” he said.
Professor Dessouky joined the department in 1993, rising to the ranks of Professor in 2005. He has been serving as Chair for the department since 2018. He completed his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1992. Professor Dessouky’s primary research areas are transportation systems and supply chain logistics, where he has authored over 95 refereed publications.
Professor Dessouky’s work has been widely acknowledged across research and teaching. He received the Transportation Science & Logistics Best Paper Prize, the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Operations Research Division Excellence in Teaching Award, the USC Associates Award in Teaching, which is the university’s top teaching award, the Alpha Pi Mu/Omega Rho Outstanding Teacher of the Year in Industrial Systems Engineering and the Viterbi School of Engineering Teaching Award.
He is also a Fellow of the IISE and serves as Associate Director of METRANS. He serves on the editorial boards of numerous academic journals, including Computers & Industrial Engineering, IISE Transactions, Transportation Research Part B, and Transportation Research Part E. Previously, he served as area/associate editor for ACM Transactions of Modeling and Computer Simulation and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems.
