Kenneth (Ken) Bonner is the Associate Dean for Inclusion and Diversity Initiatives and Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer at the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering. A certified coach with the International Coaching Federation and a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP®), Ken has over three decades of experience in institutional advancement and a deep commitment to inclusive excellence and cultural competence and has emerged as a transformative leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.

At USC Viterbi, Ken spearheads innovative DEI initiatives for faculty, staff, and students that foster a culture of equitable respect and belonging. His approach combines data driven strategies with empathetic leadership and coaching techniques, leveraging his coaching credentials to facilitate transformative dialogues and enhance self-awareness among faculty and staff. Ken's expertise spans the design and implementation of equity focused processes, programs, and training. By employing active listening, powerful questioning, and a solutions-focused approach, he has achieved measurable improvements in diversity and inclusive practices across the school. His coaching skills have been efficient in helping individuals and teams navigate complex DEI challenges, fostering a growth mindset, and promoting accountability in advancing inclusive excellence.

Before joining USC, Ken held pivotal roles at Cal Poly Pomona and Occidental College, where he developed and executed comprehensive strategies that significantly enhanced institutional opportunities for the historically marginalized. His work is well known for impacting organizational growth and equitable outcomes for diverse staff and communities.

As a champion of diversity and advocate for inclusive practices, Ken actively engages in national conversations on advancing inclusion in STEM fields.

Ken is a public speaker and contributes to best practices in academic DEI initiatives. Ken's research interests include the intersection of DEI with engineering education, focusing on strategies to dismantle systemic barriers and create pathways for underrepresented groups in engineering.
