On Feb. 14, USC Viterbi held its first Thank a Donor Day to honor the many individuals who have so generously supported the school through private funds.

During Valentine’s Day in the Epstein Family Plaza in front of the Olin Hall of Engineering, the USC Viterbi Trojan Family – dozens of students, faculty members and administrators – gathered to express sincere and creative words of gratitude through individual notes and postcards as well as through images taken in front of a photo backdrop. Almost 350 letters were collected and will be distributed in the coming weeks.

Thank a Donor Day was a meaningful way to remind everybody who walks these halls that they are impacted either directly or indirectly by generosity,” says USC Viterbi Dean Yannis Yortsos. “Our school would not be the top institution it is today without their contributions.”

Besides thanking donors for scholarship and fellowship support, Thank a Donor Day participants were also encouraged to thank individuals who have supported other initiatives at the school, including the recently-opened Michelson Center for Convergent Biosciences and student design teams, to name just a few areas.

USC Viterbi has raised more than $442 million in its eight-year fundraising initiative that started in 2010, with much of this amount gifted from parents, alumni, our Board of Councilors and other friends of the university. It is this generosity that allows the school to create opportunities for the most promising and talented individuals; to advance the school’s quality and reputation; and to address society’s needs by helping to create the leaders and experts of tomorrow.
