Brian Nielsen (2008) Brian Nielsen
Brian Alan Nielsen, '08 (ISSM), his and wife Ginger, both welcomed a baby girl, Brooklyn Christine. She joins sisters Madelyn, Rosalyn, and Ashlyn.
Robert Schmidt (2000)   Robert Knecht Schmidt '00 (ENG), MS '01 (ENG) and his wife Fei Li, welcomed a son, Lucas William.

Marriages and Commitments
Kazuma Kitagaito (2009)   Kazuma Kitagaito '09 (AME) and Nikki Ryu Kitagaito '11 (BUS) are married.
Mark Carbonella (2007)   Mark Carbonella ‘07 (AME) married Emily Belsey on May 16, 2020 at a church in San Gabriel, California. In June 2020, Carbonella earned and received his professional engineering license in Fire Protection Engineering.

Greg Garrabrants (1993)   Greg Garrabrants ‘93 (ISE) is the President and CEO of Axos Bank. Under Greg's leadership, Axos Bank has consistently ranked as one of the highest performing banking institutions in the country – with S&P Global Market Intelligence naming Axos one of the nation's top five public thrifts for 11 years in a row.
Ayanna Howard (1994)   Ayanna Howard MS '94, PhD '99 (EE) will become dean of Ohio State University's College of Engineering on March 1, 2021. She will be the first woman to lead the college. Howard will join Ohio State on March 1 from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she is chair of the School of Interactive Computing in the College of Computing as well as founder and director of the Human-Automation Systems Lab. Note: She got her MS at Viterbi as well as her PhD.

Catching Up
Jonathan Messer (2018)   Jonathan Messer ‘18 M.S. (AME) put his systems engineering degree to use during a global pandemic and a humanitarian mission in Central America. He’s now taking it to outer space.
Eugene Scott (1949)   Eugene L. Scott MS '49 (EE) served in the U.S. Navy between 1943-1946 and returned to earn a master's degree from USC. He held engineering and management positions at various companies including Gilfillan Bros, Lear, North American/Rockwell and Southern California Edison.

John Schwartz III (2018) John Schwartz III
John (Trey) Schwartz III, 18 (ENG) and Serena Zheng, 18 (LAS), received their white coats in September at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
Avery McEvoy (2017)   Avery McEvoy, '17 BSCEE, is currently pursuing a master's degree in Atmosphere/Energy at Stanford University. She is expected to graduate in March of 2019.

In Memoriam
Paul Bass (1976)   Paul Bass ’76 (ISSM) has passed away.
George M. Seeley (1950)   George Seeley ‘50 (CEE) passed away on October 19, 2020 at the age of 101. Seeley served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater, rising to the rank of First Sergeant.
