The 2017 Space Tech Expo, held in Pasadena, Calif. from May 23 to 25, brought together commercial, military, government and academic organizations to explore the opportunities and obstacles of working in the complex arena of outer space.
Event speakers included David Barnhart, director of USC Viterbi’s Space Engineering Research Center (SERC) and research professor in the Department of Astronautical Engineering (ASTE). As the founder and CEO of Arkisys, a company working to enable space commerce, Barnhart led the panel on “Servicing Space: New Markets and Business Operations” as chairman and one of the panelists. Other panelists include Pete Worden, former director of NASA’s Ames Research Center.
Additionally, SERC had a dedicated booth in the event’s exhibit hall featuring the center’s summer student researchers from ASTE.
