Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. He interviews the ISI humans behind AI to understand what motivates them, how they shape AI today, and where they hope AI will go.

Joel Mathew works as a Research Engineer at ISI, but has also used his skills to work on open-source projects that center on helping people. He discusses this work, including volunteering to develop a desktop editor for language translation, and how seeing the impacts of it have affected him. He breaks down what AI researchers mean when they talk about backpropagation and explains what AI’s ability to mimic could mean for the future. Listen to his episode of AI/nsiders below.
