AI/nsiders – ISI

Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. He interviews the ISI humans behind AI to understand what motivates them, how they shape AI today, and where they hope AI will go.

Basel Shbita, a research assistant at ISI, discusses the intersections between AI, data, and art in his work. He explains what advice he’s been given for research and what advice he’d share to others looking to get into this field. He shares his failures, his favorite movies, and the “treasure hunt” he’s currently on. He explores the questions he’s hoping to answer in data semantics, and discusses why they matter in our world today. From AI’s potential for danger to its ability to replicate Bob Marley’s vocals, he shares his thoughts on AI’s capabilities. Listen to his episode of AI/nsiders below.
