With more than $165 million annually in external research funding, the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is at the forefront of research in information technology, biotechnology and the full spectrum of engineering disciplines. The Viterbi School is second in the nation in research funding per faculty member, and consistently places in the top ten rankings according to the U.S. News and World Report rankings.
The Viterbi School is home to two National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers (the Integrated Media Systems Center and the Biomimetic Microelectonic Systems – Engineering Research Center), as well as the first University Center of Excellence selected by the Department of Homeland Security (CREATE — the Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events). USC is also home to the world-famous Information Sciences Institute and the Alfred E. Mann Institute for Biomedical Engineering.
Our highly interdisciplinary research environment has enabled faculty to respond to emerging needs for research in such diverse areas as robotics, software engineering, vision sciences and photonics.
