AI/nsiders – ISI
Adam Russell, AI/nthropologist and Director of the AI Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute (ISI), is on a journey to help build a better world with AI. He interviews the ISI humans behind AI to understand what motivates them, how they shape AI today, and where they hope AI will go.
Emmanuel Johnson, a Postdoctoral Research Associate, discusses how he seeks to use AI to help people learn to work better with one another. He shares how his past has led him to this path, from his early childhood in Liberia to the business idea he got while working behind a cash register. He explores how humor might be a way to tell humans and machines apart. He explains what he thinks researchers and developers need to keep in mind if they seek to make “trustworthy” AI, and why cultural diversity is needed to make that happen.
